Mountain Bike Clinics and Rides

Ever wanted try your hand at mountain biking? Want to improve your current technique, take your riding ability to the next level? The 2018 Maine Lobster Ride is your perfect opportunity! We’ll have PMBIA and ICP/IMBA certified instructors on hand for a series of novice and intermediate mountain bike skill clinics.

Learn how to ride off-road with comfort and efficiency, and maybe even pick up a few tricks! Clinics will be held on easy to intermediate terrain, and include short skill-building sessions before hitting the trail. Ride the self-guided loop on your own or go out with a pro for some tips on the trail!  Finish your session with a lobster roll lunch, included with the day price.

These clinics are designed for beginner to intermediate riders.  Topic will include but are not limited to:

  • Equipment controls & operation
  • Climbing & descending
  • Controlled & efficient braking
  • Maintaining momentum & traction in technical terrain
  • Cornering
  • Wheel lifts

Please bring your own helmet, hydration system, and mountain bike.  Sidecountry Sports will have limited bike demos on site.

  • 7:30 am, 100-mile riders depart (7:20 am line up)
  • 8:30 am, 62-mile riders depart (8:20 am line up)
  • 9:00 am, 38-mile riders depart (8:50 am line up)
  • 9:30 am, 15-mile riders depart (9:20am line up)
  • 10:00am, Mountain bike clinic
  • 11:00am, Guided mountain bike ride
  • 11:00am, Lunch and beer garden open
  • 1:00pm, Mountain bike clinic
  • 2:00pm, Guided mountain bike ride
  • 4:00pm Lunch and beer garden closed

Driving Directions to the Ride

The Lobster Ride starts and ends at Camden Snow Bowl in Camden, Maine. Google Maps can provide directions from your location.  If you use a GPS, plug in this address: Camden Snow Bowl, 20 Barnestown Road, Camden, ME 04843

Distances from major cities:
3 hours from Boston
1.5 hours from Portland
1 hour 15 minutes from Bangor, Ellsworth, or Lewiston-Auburn
45 minutes from Augusta
7 minutes from Camden Harbor

From Boston, Portland and points south
Take I-95 N and I-295 N to U.S. 1 North in Brunswick, Maine
After about 55 miles on Route 1, turn left on Route 90 in Warren.
After 8 miles, turn left onto Park St. Go .2 miles and turn left onto Main Street
Go 1.2 miles and turn left on Hosmer Pond Road
In 1 mile, the Snow Bowl will be on your left

From Lewiston/Auburn, Augusta and points West:
Take Route 17 from Augusta for 46 miles to Pushaw Road in Hope (comes up quick after cresting a hill)
After .6 miles, turn right onto Hope Street and then an immediate left on Gillette Road
Go 1.6 mi and turn right onto Barnestown Road
After 1.4 miles, Camden Snow Bowl will be on the right 

From Bangor, Ellsworth, Belfast and Points North
From Bangor take 1A to Belfast
From Belfast take Rte 1 South through downtown Camden
About 1 mile south of the center of town, take a right on John Street just before Subway
Continue straight through 2 stop signs and bear left at fork to stay on Hosmer Pond Road
In about 2 miles the Snow Bowl will be on the left
